Our neighborhood is a great, interactive place to live because of our neighbors.
Each month, one NEPNA household will be highlighted so you’ll recognize another NEPNA
neighbor while fishing at one of our waterfront parks, riding bikes along our livable streets to a
game at Northeast Little League, or visiting one of our neighborhood businesses. Any household
can be highlighted – just let us know if you’d like to be next and we’ll take care of the rest. |

Jay, Rebecca, and Karrington Hansen
When you have seen Karrington’s most amazing smile in person, it’s hard to wait to discuss her. She is only nine months old and spends a lot of time at Northshore Pool – likely preparing to train for the 2024 Olympic Games. She’s up crawling, sitting up, enjoying her stroller rides around the neighborhood with her parents and family German Shepherds, Gunner and Samantha.
Karrington’s parents, Jay and Rebecca, both swam competitively in college. Jay swam butterfly at Western Kentucky University (home of the mighty Hilltoppers - one of the most bizarre mascots in all of college sports …) and Rebecca swam sprint and middle distance freestyle at the University of Connecticut.
Rebecca is the pool supervisor at Northshore Pool, which is located right on the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront. The pool hosts international events, is the most visited pool in the city, and when you swim there and look out into Tampa Bay, it really feels like you are at some island resort (but then someone asks if they can share your lane and you quickly snap out of your wondering mind). Both Rebecca and Jay frequent the pool for very early morning workouts. Rebecca stays and Jay leaves for work as a freelance equity trader focusing on the financial services industry.
Jay and Rebecca purchased their home on 38th Avenue Northeast in 2003. But you would not recognize that house today. They’ve completely renovated the house – doubling the size through an additional bedroom, bathroom, expanded kitchen, living room, garage, and covered porch. They did all that work on their house because they enjoy the neighborhood, Crisp Park, and all the other active young families.
Introduce yourself to the Hansen family next time you see a family pushing a stroller flanked by two friendly German Shepherds. Of course you’ll know it’s them when you see Karrington’s smile. |
