Beautification Team Update – May

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

After the meeting I talked with Susan Fuchs (City of St. Petersburg) regarding the maintenance of the planted median strips along 40th Avenue and 1st Street.   She said that because of the liability involved only city employees can weed them.  So we just have to keep an eye on them and if they become overgrown we can contact her and she will take care of it.  What we as homeowners are responsible for are the weeds that grow along our curbs and sidewalks.   The city does not maintain them and will not do any kind of weed control.  Susan also said that the city only does street sweeping in our neighborhood twice a year.  So please do not blow leaves and grass clippings into the street.  The rain washes them into the sewer lines and causes drainage to slow down .  Thanks for your help in these areas!
Let’s keep our neighborhood looking good!

May NEPNA Monthly Meeting Summary

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Big Things are Happening in Northeast Park!

The big news from the May meeting is that we are officially on for the Dog Days of Summer end of school year party at Crisp Park (June 6th 11a – 2p)! This will be the first big event for NEPNA Version 2.0 and the first celebration of the school year ending for any neighborhood in St. Petersburg (as far as we know …).

This is how summer should begin for everyone:

The City of St. Pete’s TASCO group will rent us a 30 foot inflatable slip and slide (Wow!), a large inflatable moonwalk, and music – with DJ and interactive games.  The St. Petersburg Fire Department will likely provide fire truck(s) and staff to help grill food (thanks to Councilman Bill Dudley). And Councilwoman Leslie Curran has offered an Arts Table and Supplies for children. But wait there’s more …

This is lining up to be a monster party for NEPNA neighbors of all ages … and the best part about it is that it is entirely FREE to attend thanks to your neighborhood association! More information will be sent out in the coming days.

Other notes from the April meeting:

No NEPNA Monthly Meeting in June (we’ll be recovering from the party).

The July NEPNA Monthly Meeting will be focused on the Livable Streets Coalition to discuss new pedestrian safety measures.

The Green Thumb Club is considering a Plant Swap and Rain Barrel class.

Home improvement or landscaping jobs of note will be recognized on this very blog by the Beautification Committee.

Bright Bay Builders – May NEPNA Business

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

bright-bay

Each month, NEPNA Leadership profiles one of our neighborhood businesses. For May, it’s: Bright Bay Builders

There is no hesitation in noting that one of the most distinctive new construction and custom renovation companies in St. Petersburg is Bright Bay Builders. Walk or ride bikes around Northeast Park, Old Northeast, or Snell Isle and you will see evidence of Bright Bay’s high quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Take some time to browse the Bright Bay website (www.brightbay.com) and read about Paul Haggar and the Bright Bay staff, read the client testimonials, scroll through the photo gallery, and start thinking about your next home construction or renovation.

The Northeast Park neighborhood is proud to have such a distinctive home builder in our neighborhood (Bright Bay renovated the building on the north corner of 43rd Avenue and 1st Street and converted the space to their office). It has been enjoyable watching so many Bright Bay projects being constructed in the neighborhood and surrounding areas, and we look forward to many more to come.
